“It’s all about surprising myself”
ASCII ·
Q: Do you always produce your music yourself, and do you play all the instruments?
A: Yeah, up until now. Unfortunately. But I’ve recently started bringing in a few musicians who absolutely blew me away and made me fall in love with collaborating. So now I refuse to work alone. I’ve also started producing together with my friend Manne. It’s all about surprising myself, and I can do that on my own if I let go of control—but it’s hard to stay consistent with that. So it’s easier to just collaborate instead.
Q: What are your lyrics about?
A: Hmm, my latest album is about love. I’d never written about love before, but that’s just where it ended up. Right now I guess they’re about transparency, or something. Or maybe it’s more about making the words sound good together. I’ve also become obsessed with system poetry lately, where the system decides the words rather than their meaning. Something like that, maybe? I think that’s my answer.
Q: What’s your songwriting process like?
A: Oh dear God. (-.-;)
Q: Which track is your favorite from the album?
A: I like all of them! It doesn’t really feel like I made them. But I’d say “ Det är alltså en älskare som säger” because it has vocal harmonies, a bridge, and beautiful lyrics.
Q: What kind of musical environment did you grow up in?
A: Hmm, I’d probably say the internet. Emotional EDM from the 2010s, French touch, Random Bastards. Then again, I’m from Hälsingland, so I also grew up around a lot of folk music and beautiful melodies. That’s probably it. As far as I know, nobody in my family played an instrument. I just started.
Q: Any future plans?
A: I’d love to work in a record store. Somewhere like Pet Sounds. Or as a tour manager. Maybe make another album as soon as possible. There’ll probably be a collection of songs coming out this autumn. Hmm… figure out an ASCII tour in America. Build the most alive live show I can possibly create.
