”I’d like to live and work in a cabin up in Norrbotten.”
JWSPOOK ·
JWSPOOK releases an enormous amount of music. Take a look and you’ll have enough to keep you busy for several days. This Friday, he’ll be playing, among other things, at Dissonans’ one-year anniversary celebration at Southside Gallery. The following day, he’ll be playing alongside artists including Astrel K at Snövit. In addition to being active in a wide range of musical projects, JWSPOOK is also an artist. We caught up with him for a short interview below.
Q: You churn out an incredible amount of music. What does a typical recording session look like for you?
A: I sit down and just make something. There’s no real plan to it. I don’t think too much about what I’m going to do; I just let it become whatever it becomes.
Q: What are your favorite pieces of music gear to work with?
A: FL Studio, the Roland D-50 VST, a Casio SK-1 sampler, a Maschine MK3 sampler, and a tape recorder. Those are the things I use the most.
Q: Besides music, you also paint a lot of amazing artworks. What would your ideal creative environment look like?
A: Thanks! Ideally, I’d like to live and work in a cabin up in Norrbotten, where it’s quiet and peaceful, preferably with waterfront property near the river. I could sit there making music all day long.
Q: Do you have any personal thoughts or ideas behind your art, or do you simply channel the endless flow of the universe?
A: No, I don’t think about it that much. I just force myself to do it. I’m obsessed.
Q: Where are you from, and why are you where you are now?
A: I’m from Stockholm, and I honestly don’t know why I still live here. There are too many people and everything is expensive.
Q: If you could design the perfect gig, what would it look like?
A: It would probably be a mix of artists from different genres. I really like James Ferraro; it would be awesome to get him to Sweden to play live. Dissonans puts on really cool gigs and events with artists from different genres, so I’d probably do something along those lines.
Q: Do you want to tell us a little about your other musical projects? You also have a band called Primalorkestern, for example?
A: Yeah, Primalorkestern is probably the most fun project I have. It’s been on hold for a little while, but we’ll probably try to meet up sometime soon and record some more stuff. Sometimes I meet up with my friend Markus, who’s also in Primalorkestern, when he’s visiting Stockholm. We hang out at my place and make noise. We’re called Madeira. Spookhound is another new project I have with Simon from Lathund. There’s some really good stuff happening with that one too.
Q: If reality were different, how would you choose for it to look?
A: I don’t know. My reality is already perfect. I guess the cabin up in Norrbotten would be the only thing, haha, but I’ll probably make that happen in the future!
Q: Does Stockholm have the most interesting music scene in Europe right now?
A: I don’t know, I don’t really keep up with the music scene in Europe.
Q: If you were forced to play electric guitar, which model would you choose, and how would you modify it, if at all?
A: I’d want a B.C. Rich because they look cool, and because the guy from Slipknot used to play one.
