In 2001, I was a huge stoner rock fan. I discovered Queens of the Stone Age at the Hultsfred Festival, and then KYUSS, Unida, Fu Manchu and all the bands around that scene. I even managed to get Josh Homme on the phone for half an hour. So it’s a real pleasure to hear those stoner sounds again in a young band like Caboose. I’m looking forward to seeing them live at Geronimo’s on Wednesday. I managed to get a few questions answered by them just a few days before the show.

Q: Once, when I was talking to Josh Homme, I asked him about his guitar setup pedals, amps and so on but he refused to reveal it. He said it was an “Old Chinese secret.” What does the perfect stoner rig look like? Feel free to describe it in detail.

A: Fuzz is a good start. Preferably on every instrument. The amp should also ideally be turned up to 11.

Q: What kind of van would you most like to tour in, and why?

A: A van with three seats in the front, so the bassist can lie down in the actual cargo area.

Q: What is the best stoner band in history? Why are they the best?

A: Tough one… I’d still have to say Queens of the Stone Age. I don’t even know if you can call them stoner rock. They’re good in every way songwriting, riffs, drums, vocals, and so on.

Q: Which desert do you think would hypothetically be the best place to play?

A: It has to be Palm Desert.

Q: Do you have any guilty pleasures, such as skateboarding or rollerblading?

A: Some of us actually skate. Our bassist likes sewing things. Other than that, there’s probably not much more.

Q: What’s the fastest you’ve ever heard of someone driving while playing your music through the speakers?

A: Maybe 50 km/h? 🤔 It must have been some gravel road out in the countryside.

Q: Where are you from, where did you meet, and how did the band come together?

A: We’re all from Stockholm, and we met at a high school where we were all studying music. We realized that we liked the same kind of music, so we decided to rehearse a few songs together. Then it just became a band.

Q: What is the worst as in, the absolute worst music you think has ever been created?

A: Tough one. A lot of nu metal. Otherwise, maybe dansband music.

Q: If you were forced to do a cover of a Swedish schlager festival song, which one would you choose?

A: “Satellit” by Ted Gärdestad probably could have worked.

Q: Which region of Sweden do you think is best suited for stoner rock?

A: This isn’t technically a region, but Örebro is good. They have Truckfighters and Witchcraft.
