Friday the 11th of December sold out, so there will be another night. On Saturday the 12th of December Strindbergs and The Nomads are on Encore’s stage again, this time with Strindbergs as the headliner.
Janne Borgh (Moderns) and Johan Johansson (KSMB) formed the trio Strindbergs in 1982, after their previous band split up. Punk, pop music, sharp lyrics and a magical vibe. When other bands played synth in suits, Strindbergs played rock ’n’ roll and smashed guitars.
The band broke up after three years, three albums, three singles and three hundred concerts. Twenty‑five years later Peace & Love festival asked them to reunite. Together with drummer Robert Eriksson (The Hellacopters) they played at the festival and two nights on the Kulturhuset roof in the summer of 2009. It was so much fun that it has become a concert a year ever since. Maybe for the very last time, maybe not.
The Nomads come from Solna, an unyielding suburb of Stockholm built on top of a landfill. The concrete heritage has always shaped the music. When the band recorded its debut single in 1981 something primitive burst out of the amps, and for The Nomads garage rock has never been a historical phenomenon. It’s an attitude: anger, intoxication, insecurity, obsession. The compilation “Nomadic Dementia” documents 25 years of releases, but the music is about what’s to come, not what’s past. If a Nomads song boarded the night bus you hoped it wouldn’t sit next to you.
Two nights in a row of Stockholm punk‑pop and Solna garage‑rock. This time you’ll make it.
Since Bishops is right next to Encore you don’t have to rush: arrive early, have a bite and a drink, then just walk a few steps to the concert. If you want to be sure of a spot we recommend booking a table in advance, especially for popular concerts and on weekends.
