Kataokas - live at Aspen!
Shameless audience flirting! Maybe someone says. Another: boundary-pushing musical style flirting. As if it were something negative. The band with the Japanese-sounding name has never seemed less Japanese. Kataokas know one thing: playing joy builds music, even if it becomes a crazy mix.
After last year's sold-out concert, the band is back, with a repertoire that includes something old (2003), something new (2026), something borrowed (from Lars), and something blue (a Småland blues). Songs about life. About someone who misses their dad, is angry at the government, worries about the forest, has read a really great book, wants to scream something out in a hipster area, has an old friend they should have gotten in touch with sooner, or has other friends who make the days and weeks worth fighting for.
Kataokas may have never been better. Or at least, they've never had it better. Maybe it's because the band has started to take risks, doubled the horn section, sings with even more voices and in different languages, and doesn't get stuck in old patterns. Or maybe it's just that time passes and with it, a growing sense that the music, the band, and the meeting with the audience is something beautiful and valuable.
Kataokas has taken the chance, let go of their inhibitions, and invites you to that feeling of community mixed with melancholy, hammond organ, horns, and singing in harmony, with a good dose of love in flowing form. Music for the sad, happy, angry, tired, exhilarated - in short, everyone who feels alive.

Disciplin… is probably a trio that plays unsophisticated rock with simple percussion juxtaposed with advanced sampling and machine drums in sometimes long or short jams, where a certain fondness for loops and fuzz can be discerned in the beautiful melodies' noise.
