“A filthy conglomerate of weirdo electronics and hardcore intensity.” — The Wire
“It’s the bangers here that are undeniable.” — Pitchfork
“A tight embrace of experimenting and never staying still.” — Huck
PP, the solo project of Ukraine-born, London-based Theo Zhykharyev, stands out through its exuberant basslines, sizzling synth hooks, and melancholic vocal melodies. From the lo-fi-infused synth-punk of the breakthrough debut People in the Sun (2019), through the instrumental dungeon-synth release Stump Soup (2022) and the kaleidoscopic Grass EP (2023), to last year’s ’80s rock-inspired excursions on the atmospheric Crashing Cars 7” and the Michael Mann-inspired Heat EP. Powerplant’s latest endeavor is the second full-length album, Bridge of Sacrifice — a playful, black metal-influenced journey through all things heavy and gothic.
The synth-punk debut People in the Sun took the internet by storm in 2019. Its fuzzy melodies landed the album on “Best of...” lists from both Pitchfork and Bandcamp, while earning praise from Iggy Pop and Henry Rollins.
Zhykharyev assembled a live band featuring some of London’s finest musicians, including members of Island of Love, Hitmen, and Arms Race. Together they have toured extensively across the globe, selling out shows in Japan, Australia, the United States, Scandinavia, and beyond. Powerplant’s intensity was captured in a live studio session for KEXP, and the band has appeared at festivals such as End of The Road, Outbreak, and Fluff Fest, while also sharing stages with cult rock acts including OSees, Show Me The Body, and Ovlov.
As if PP/Powerplant weren’t enough, we’re also bringing in anarcho-stomp punks Bootlicker and White Collar. Straight-up raw and vicious HARDCORE PUNK that perfectly frames the evening, especially now that Powerplant has decided to sound like a British version of Poison Ruin.
Rarely has Hus 7 smelled so much like a dungeon as it will on June 27.
