Australian band Cosmic Psychos are a punk rock institution that, since their formation in 1982, have built a cult following far beyond their homeland. Fronted by Ross Knight, the band has spent four decades delivering eleven albums of their uncompromising blend of fuzzy guitars, wah-wah bass, and raw, humorous punk rock.
The band's influence extends far beyond the Australian punk scene. The Prodigy sampled their music on *The Fat of the Land* (1997), while Nirvana producer Butch Vig has cited Cosmic Psychos as a major inspiration for both Nirvana and the entire Seattle grunge scene. Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder has also praised the band's significance.
In 2013, their story reached a new audience through the documentary *Blokes You Can Trust*, in which several prominent figures from the international indie scene spoke about the band's lasting impact on music history. Since then, Cosmic Psychos have continued to win over new fans around the world.
In 2023, Cosmic Psychos celebrated an impressive 40 years as a band. And now, in 2026, they are back with a new album, *I Really Like Beer*, along with a tour that arrives at Debaser Nova on July 15.
“Even though the Cosmic Psychos never had the commercial impact or success that Nirvana and Pearl Jam had, they were still a major influence on them, and I think a lot of it had to do with the spirit and the sound of their music.” – Butch Vig, producer
