Genom Natten writes dream pop for broken hearts, where Swedish melancholy meets cinematic choruses in a expression that feels both timeless and immediate. After a critically acclaimed debut album, sold‑out shows and the award for Newcomer of the Year at the Manifest gala, the duo returns to Nalen for a solo concert on 6 November. Genom Natten creates grand choruses for broken hearts, like the soundtrack to a David Lynch film set in a Swedish folk park. Behind the band are Joel Sjöö and Alessandra Günthardt, two songwriters and producers who have previously won Grammis and Denniz Pop Awards, and have had global successes with songs such as Arcade with Duncan Laurence, Revolution with Elias and All We Got with Robin Schulz and Kiddo. Now they have formed a band for the first time entirely on their own terms. At the same time it is both of their debut in Swedish, straight from the heart and without compromises: “Autumn 2023 we met in LA, jet‑lagged and tired of the commercial pop circuit. We both felt that so much of our creativity was shaped by others – artists, record labels, managers – and how wonderful it would be to have our own little bubble where we could make music straight from the heart, without compromises. We have always wanted to write timeless songs in the same spirit as Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game and share a love for American indie music like Beach House and Mazzy Star. When we started writing Swedish lyrics to this dreamy music we found something we had never heard before.” Since the debut single I ett annat liv was released in February 2025, the duo has emerged as one of the year’s breakthroughs on the Swedish indie scene, receiving extensive radio attention and playing to sold‑out audiences. Autumn 2025 saw the self‑titled debut album praised by critics and in 2026 Genom Natten was awarded the prize for Newcomer of the Year at the Manifest gala at Nalen, with the motivation: “The Newcomer of the Year captures both Swedish melancholy and international shimmering dream‑pop traditions with a wholly unique voice that makes each song feel larger than life itself.
